After leaving Lost Lake we headed West further into California to Indian Hill Ranch RV park in Tehachapi, CA.  After a week of temperatures in the 90’s we were reading for some cooler weather and we sure got it! Located about 35 miles southeast of Bakersfield it sits at about 4,000 feet elevation. When we arrived there was remnants of snow on the mountaintops around us. It was quite a change from the desert.

The day after we arrived it rained and then it SNOWED overnight.  It wasn’t much and it melted quickly but it was pretty fun since we hadn’t seen any yet this winter.

The weather stayed cool for most of our stay, usually in the 40-50’s during the day and in the 30’s at night. We did get a couple of days in the 60’s and were able to hike up into the more primitive sites with two small ponds.

Most of our days were spent working and snuggling the dogs inside.  At night we watched some movies that I rented from redbox and tried to eat warm comfort foods.

We started looking into buying a camera since so far all my pictures were taken with my phone.  Clay’s step-mom Jana, loving gave us her camera!  I am still learning how to use it but was able to take some cool photos of the nature that was around us.

We also enjoyed hummingbirds at our feeder every day.  Anytime I looked over there was one getting a drink.  I have become a little obsessed and decided to buy a field guide so that I can tell what kind they are.

I learned a lot about Tehachapi.  They have a Catholic monastery as well as a Buddhist temple, are famous for a train loop, have lots of apple orchards, and ranches with cattle and ostrich! A lot of the people who live there seem to commute to cities nearby for work, including our very nice neighbors Judy and Brian.  We enjoyed our stay but in the end we got tired of the cold and happily made our way toward Las Vegas and Death Valley, with their 70-80 degree days and nights in the 50’s.

Next stop Shoshone RV Resort….HA! Just kidding, we stayed a night then had to leave due to ABSOLUTELY zero cellular service.  We ended up at a little RV resort in Pahrump, NV.

Stay tuned…..for now cute kid pics….
